An Operating System is the low-level software which controls a computer system. It controls the way your hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between various applications, plus the prioritization of applications if multiple ones run concurrently. Each and every program which is installed on a desktop or a notebook functions by sending requests to the OS for various services using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be done using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the OS is what commands a server and any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. If there're virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs you can find and we supply all 3 rather than just one because we realize that you might want to set up some software with specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there are various software programs you can install on the web server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you would like to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you want some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you want. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a wider choice regarding the system environment on the server as different apps can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and safe Internet hosting service. Depending on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also update the OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
